Background: He was a genin of Iwa before losing his eye in a routine mission. Upon the loss of his eye, Hotaru retired as a ninja and became a travelling merchant. When the looming threat of Akatsuki threatened a civil war, Iwa started training everyone with Ninja training, and Hotaru felt comfortable enough to start again as a Genin. Now a Genin of Iwagakure again, Hotaru has been training his marksmanship and Taijutsu, preferring to be a physical-based fighter, rather than a chakra based fighter. He fights for the sake of his younger sister, Ami.

Personality: He's chivalrous, and refuses to harm women and children when he has the option not to do so, and finds one who would willingly do so despicable. He's known to make Pirate Jokes whenever somebody mentions his eyepatch. He's known to be very cheerful, conversing even with a person trying to kill him as if they were best friends. He does have two sore spots that, if touched, would make him incredibly serious. He will refuse to let up on a man who has harmed a woman or a child intentionally, no matter what side he is on, and if anyone threatens his sister, they will not see Hotaru's cheerful side again until they are dying, and maybe not even then.

Overall Fighting Ability: He's rather weak as a result of losing his eye and retiring, but he's Low chunin level on his taijutsu. His chakra is pathetic, and his control is average at best. His Ninjutsu and Genjutsu suffer as a result, being Low Genin level at best. He's become proficient at using Kunai and Shuriken due to losing the eye and requiring it for depth perception. His hearing has become better out of necessity as well, compensating for his vision impairment.

Techniques: Basic Taijutsu-- Nothing special.
Substitution -- due to low chakra, he does not use this technique if he has an alternate method of escaping.
