A vibrant member of the Tenth Company, Ryan is depicted as possessing blue eyes and spiky brown hair. Ryan is regularly seen with an upbeat and eager persona, always eager for something such as learning a new technique or a nice afternoon nap. A trait regularly mentioned that easily angered him was his abnormally tall stature even for his age. He wears standard shinigami garb, topped off with a long, fur cape that seems to be covered with skull masks. As a Third Seat, Ryan has been seen in his standard shinigami garb.

Background:
Ryan had a regular childhood. After dying in the real world, he was born in the thirty-second division of South Rukongai. As a child, he grew up like any normal Rukongai kid, helping his parents around the house, shopping, etc. When he was the age of one hundred (young by shinigami standards), he went off to be trained as a Shinigami. While in the academy, he excelled in the arts of Zanjutsu (sword play) and Kido. By age of one hundred-five, he knew the name of his zanpakuto, Suigetsu, and could release it to shikai. At the age of one hundred-seven, he graduated and was put as Tenth Division's tenth seat. Three years later, he mastered shikai, and was even better with Kido. On top of that, he had been on patrol in the human world, and defeated numerous hollows along the way. Due to these feats, he quickly rose in rank to fifth seat. During his fifteen years as fifth seat, he came to admire his captain, Toshiro Hitsugaya. The two were never close, and only spoke at squad meetings, however, he did relay his admiration for the captain to his Lieutenant, Rangiku Matsumoto, who sometimes relayed it to the Captain. When he was one hundred-forty years old, he was finally promoted to third seat by his Captain. This decision was based upon a recent mission to the Human World, in which Ryan managed to kill dozens of hollows by commanding a force of four other shinigami. Captain Hitsugaya said that his leadership was "admirable" during the mission, as there was no casualties on Ryan's team and the mission was a success, and there in lies the reason for his promotion.

Personality: He is a carefree guy, who's personality seems to attract many. He is very warm towards his fellow officers, friends and family alike. Ryan is shown to have a compassionate, yet serious attitude when it comes to friends and family. He keeps most painful and conflicting thoughts inside, so he can "keep others from worrying about him". Although this method causes him to suffer more than he should. His closest friends, such as his cousin, can see right through this and are often his closest confidants. He also tends to worry about those close to him, even when they are completely okay. Whenever angered or in combat, Ryan is fairly calm, serious, and level-headed. In battle he has shown himself to have a calm, collected manner, analyzing his opponent's moves and properly choosing how to counter them. He is shown to keep this demeanor until he begins winning by a large margin. He is then shown to become rather cocky, even going so far as to taunt and belittle his opponents. He often lets enemies know that he is proud of his power, as he has worked very hard for it.

Overall Fighting Ability:
Strengths

• His swordsmanship is what is most astounding about him, having learned his zanpakuto's shikai during his time in the academy. He excels at the art of sword fighting, relying on his zanpakuto's unique shape to gain control of combat.
  
• His kido is average for a third seat. He is able to cast spells, both Bakudo and Hado, up to level 31 without incantation. Anything above that, he must use the incantation or cannot use at all.
  
• His reiatsu is average for a third seat, sporting a purple color with a blue outline.
